Folks,
Tell me what you think about this data. If this is something you want, I will put these out shortly after the lineups are announced.
In my recent article describing the optimal Astros lineup, I described that every night might have a different answer depending on if the SP was RH or LH and what their dominant pitch types were.
So tonight, let's do the quick application of that thought process. Let's compare the optimal Astros lineup with the choices Dusty Baker has made tonight.
Tonight's pitcher is - Reid Detmers for the Angels. His pitch mix this year has been.
Therefore, Detmers is a LH Breaking Pitch Dominant Pitcher. The optimal lineup would be.
Tonight, both Abreu and McCormick are unavailable.
Overall, I actually think the lineup tonight is really good. Singleton is being pressed into service at 1B vs. the LHP due to Abreu being unavailable. I would have suggested Diaz at first and then chosing between starting Meyers (CF) or Singleton (DH). It is a debatable choice and Singleton might rake against any RHRPs.
Overall, I give tonight's lineup a NINE. Are you shocked?
