Texas vs. Michigan Depth Chart Comparison

Discover the in-depth Texas vs. Michigan Depth Chart Comparison, revealing surprising insights into talent and experience levels for an exciting game ahead!

Saturday, The Texas Longhorns will travel to Michigan to establish an early season marque victory vs. the Wolverines. In January, we introduced our followers to the Adjusted Rating system

The Adjusted Ratings system is a model for assessing a program's true talent level based on several factors:

  1. Recruiting rankings

  2. Playing time as measured by snaps

  3. The QUALITY of play during that playing time

If you want to know more, check out the adjusted ratings article here.

This week we published an updated Texas Longhorns Depth Chart based on what the team had communicated that showed the Adjusted Ratings. Check out the analysis of that Depth Chart here.

There are details is this article you may want to understand before continuing here.

Now, let's compare the Adjusted Ratings of the Texas Roster Depth Chart with the Michigan Roster Depth Chart.

I used the depth chart as published on these sites for Michigan.

Here is my Adjusted Rating Depth Chart for Michigan.

As a reminder, this is what the depth chart for Texas looked like for Week 1.

For the AR blue is good (think of blue chip) and green is bad or very inexperienced.

Here is my Adjusted Ratings based comparison of the offenses.

If you want just two numbers to compare, consider this.

  1. The two deep for Texas has over twice as many snaps of experience than Michigan (the cells in yellow). The only position Michigan has the experience advantage is running back (also compare "Total Career Snaps")

  2. The weighted average of the Adjusted Ratings for the Longhorns is 11% higher than Michigan. That is a large gap. The largest gap is at quarterback for the Horns with large gaps at WR and OL too. Michigan has an advantage at RB and TE.

Here is my Adjusted Ratings based comparison of the defenses.

Michigan is known as one of the best defensive teams in the country. What would you say if I told you THIS SYSTEM says the Longhorns actually have a 3% talent ADVANTAGE to Michigan?

This AR advantage is fueled by the recent huge successes Texas has had in recruiting AND the fact that the Horns have also added transfer portal player with tons of experience.

The most shocking comp is that Texas' DTs rate on par with Michigan's. You heard it here first. We will see if that plays out in practice Saturday.

The DE/EDGEs from Texas have been developing and transfer portal player make that a huge advantage.

Texas also hold Michigan to a draw with the DBs. We covered how much the DBs have improved in the Texas Depth Chart analysis.

Folks, having the most talent and experience do not ALWAYS into wins but it sure helps. You may find yourself wanting this data Saturday during the game to help understand what you are seeing.

What does it all mean today? Who will win? This system would lead one to believe Texas will win big. My line gaps method

would predict a two-point Michigan win. I think we get a narrow Texas win. Texas wins 23-20. Buckle up Horns fans.

Welcome to my Texas Michigan Depth Chart Comparison. Please let me know what you think.
