Texas Longhorns Adjusted Rating After Week 1

Uncover the groundbreaking College Football Talent Development Adjusted Rating system, revealing how genetics and environment shape players' success. In this Article we are going to deep dive into the Texas roster and look at my Adjusted Ratings after Week 1. We will update the Development weekly so Longhorns fans can see the team development.

Note, this is an update to the series we published early this year.

I may be jumping too quickly into the details. Let me take a step back to remind you what my Adjusted Ratings system is.

In psychology, folks often discuss the role of genetics and environment on shaping a person's personality and even their future. Similarly, both talent acquisition (recruiting, transfers) and development are key to a college football team in building a championship program, and this is my adjusted rating.

I would like to share my model for accessing a program's true talent level based on several factors:

  1. Recruiting rankings

  2. Playing time as measured by snaps

  3. The QUALITY of play during that playing time

The key to this exercise will be to answer the impossible question one player at a time. What makes a college player great - innate talent (genetics) or development (environment)? My adjusted rating system will show a way to utilize both.

Now we will deep dive into Texas Longhorns Adjusted Ratings After Week 1.

As a reminder. Here is the scale for the Adjusted Rating.

Before we deep dive into the Week 1 Adjusted Ratings, here are the Longhorns that scored over 70 on their PFF grades week one and how their development scores increased.

First, I am going to go position-by-position and then give you the entire data set sorted for a few variables.

Find a QB room like Texas. An interesting note, Arch Manning increased his development score more in week 1 than he did all last year.

Running Backs

Wide Receivers

Ryan Wingo had the best PFF score of anyone on scholarship at Texas with more than 5 snaps. He is going to be fun to monitor his development all season.

Tight Ends

Offensive Tackles

Cam Williams had a great Game 1, and his development score reflects that.

Centers

Guards and other IOL

Conner played at both G and C. Williams and Hutson had the best grades. The OL is going to be so fun to follow.

Defensive Tackles

Notice the snap counts being spread out here. It seems like this will be set by matchups.

Defensive Edge/ Jack/ OLB

Sorrell scored best on the PFF grade in Week 1.

Linebackers

Blackwell had a rough game per the PFF grade. Lefau graded the highest.

Cornerbacks

Barron played GREAT per PFF. Muhammad did VERY well too. Holmes struggled per PFF.

Safety

Taaffe played great per PFF.

Star/ Nickel

Guilbeau started and the other two split time.
