The 2024 season will be a whole new world for college football fans. One and maybe even two losses will not ruin your team's chances to make the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
We have gone through conference by conference to give you my predictions for how each team will end the season and the detail for every team vying to be in the top 25 and ultimately in the CFP.
I have created a system to generate projections for every team given their schedule and relative team strengths. I will also create an index post for you to access everything from. Here are links to the FBS Conferences.
Now let's pull it all together and predict the 12 teams that will make the CFP and how they will matchup.
As shown in the Top 25 Preview and Predictions article, I think these 12 teams will make the CFP.
Let's build out the full CFP tournament bracket.
In Round 1 - 12/20/24 to 12/21/24
12/20/24 Friday at 8PM EST
Oregon will host and beat Boise State 37-24
12/21/24 Saturday at 12PM EST
Penn St. will host and beat LSU in a 24-22 classic. I wonder if it will be snowing.
12/21/24 Saturday at 4PM EST
Texas will host and beat Iowa 31-20. Horns fans be ready to rock DKR.
12/21/24 Saturday at 8PM EST
Who else would get the Primetime slot Saturday night?
Alabama will host and beat Notre Dame 28-23.
Round 1 will live up to the hype.
Quarterfinals- 12/31/24 to 1/1/25
The CFP will shift into Bowl mode where the games will be at neutral sites of the New Year's Six Bowls.
I believe these historical conference tie ins will be observed if possible:
If the SEC champ is #1, they will be sent to the Sugar Bowl- if the Sugar Bowl is a quarterfinals game.
If the ACC champ is #1, they will be sent to the Orange Bowl- if the Orange Bowl is a quarterfinals game
If the B1G champ is #1, they will be sent to the Rose Bowl- if the Rose Bowl is a quarterfinals game
Given those parameters, I think the CFP QF will be set up like this:
12/31/24 Tuesday at 7:30PM EST - Fiesta Bowl
Oregon will beat Big 12 Champion Kansas State 30-20
1/1/25 Wednesday 1:00PM EST - Peach Bowl
Texas will beat ACC Champion Clemson 27-17
1/1/25 Wednesday 5:00PM EST - Rose Bowl
B1G Champion Ohio State will beat Alabama 28-23
1/1/25 Wednesday 8:45PM EST - Sugar Bowl
SEC Champ Georgia will beat Penn State 34-21
Semifinals- 1/9/25 to 1/10/25
1/9/25 Thursday 7:30PM EST - Orange Bowl
Georgia will beat Oregon 28-20
1/10/24 Friday 7:30PM EST - Sugar Bowl
Ohio State will beat Texas 24-23
National Championship - 1/20/25 - Atlanta - 7:30PM EST
Georgia will beat Ohio State 31-27
