Current 2024 Texas Longhorns Adjusted Rating Depth Chart

Explore the 2024 Texas Longhorns Depth Chart with adjusted ratings, analyzing talent and development to reveal the team's true potential. This will be updated regularly through the season.

In psychology, folks often discuss the role of genetics and environment on shaping a person's personality and even their future. Similarly, both talent acquisition (recruiting, transfers) and development are key to a college football team in building a championship program, and this is my adjusted rating.

I would like to share my model for accessing a program's true talent level based on several factors:

  1. Recruiting rankings

  2. Playing time as measured by snaps

  3. The QUALITY of play during that playing time

The key to this exercise will be to answer the impossible question one player at a time. What makes a college player great - innate talent (genetics) or development (environment)? My adjusted rating system will show a way to utilize both.

Now we will deep dive into the Current Texas Adjusted Rating Depth Chart.

As a reminder this was the Texas Depth chart BEFORE the 2023 season

These tables compare the 2024 starters and second team with those at this time last year with the 2023 team that went to the four-team playoff.

Please consider these themes as you see this data:

  1. The Longhorns reloaded their top spots with developing players and the portal.

  2. The Longhorns have significantly more experience than they did last year.

  3. The Longhorns offense backups this year have 108% more snap experience than last year.

  4. The Longhorns defense backups this year have 53% more snap experience than last year.

  5. The Longhorns have crazy levels of depth.

  6. The QB Room has a 22% improvement in the Adjusted Rating. My current guess is there is no other QB two deep with a weighted average of 1.3086. (Weighted Average is 2X Starter and 1X Second Team.)

  7. The OL line room was already great and experienced in 2023. It has a 53% more snap experience and is 8% better in the Adjusted Rating in 2024. That would seem impossible, but it is not.

  8. The DE/ Edge Room has a 20% improvement in the Adjusted Rating. The pass rush will be unleashed.

The Offense

The Defense

Overall Summary

The first unit offense enters the season with an average Adjusted Rating 99% of the 2023 team that had Worthy, Whitington, Jones, Sanders, Mitchell, and Brooks who all went to the draft and Baxter who is out for the season in 2024.

The first unit defense enters the season with an average Adjusted Rating 105% of the 2023 team that had Sweat, Murphy, Ford, and Watts who all went to the draft and Thompson and Catalon leave in the portal.

The Longhorns have truly developed from within and perfectly supplemented from the portal.

If you do not remember anything else from this article, remember this:

Texas is one of the deepest teams talent wise in all of college football. They have loads of experience at all positions with the exception of possibly RB.

The Current 2024 Texas Adjusted Rating Depth Chart will tell us so much as players develop and switch roles. We will be able to track all of these changes with the Adjusted Ratings system.
