Astros: Abreu Post-IL- It's a Whole New World

What if I told you that Jose Abreu after he returned from the IL was basically the exact same player he has been in 2019, 2021, and 2022?

It is a whole new world of hitting for the Astros' Abreu Post-IL.

Here is the table right here with the comparison.

Abreu Comps
Abreu Comps

Since 8/23, Abreu has hit

- OPS 0.834- this is BETTER than 2019, 2021, and 2022

- xwOBA 0.413- this is BETTER than 2019, 2021, and 2022

- with an overall exit velocity of 90.5 which is slightly below the 2019/21/22 EV of 92.1

- this has been done with a very unlucky BABIP of 0.220

The biggest jump for Abreu has been in how he is hitting breaking pitches (sliders, curves, sweepers). He is like a completely different ball player than he was before 8/9.

Again, I believe something was done while Abreu was on the IL to improve his eyesight.

Folks, THIS Abreu could lead the Astros charge to the postseason.
